Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Highway Development Project

ECOWAS ADVANCES COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT FOR THE ABIDJAN-LAGOS CORRIDOR HIGHWAY PROJECT IN COMMUNITIES ACROSS TOGO.

In continuation of its stakeholder engagement and sensitization activities, ECOWAS, through its communications consultant, conducted a series of impactful sessions across communities in Togo — namely Lomé, Noépé, Tsévié, and Agomé Glozou. The engagement activities provided community members with critical information on the project’s objectives, its anticipated economic and social impacts, and avenues for local participation. Through sensitization sessions featuring interactive discussions, presentations, and Q&A segments, the project team fostered an open dialogue, addressed key concerns related to land acquisition, compensation, environmental sustainability, and employment opportunities, ensuring inclusive participation at every stage.

In addition, outreach efforts extended to selected schools within the communities, where students were sensitized about the project’s prospects and benefits. Branded Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials were also distributed to students and teachers to further enhance project visibility and understanding.

The final days of activities celebrated the communities’ rich culture, featuring a traditional dance performance by a cultural troupe in Noépé and a novelty football match between male and female teams in Agomé Glozou, promoting unity and engagement through cultural and sporting activities.
